Mothers and fathers using Hyrax (screw expansion) appliance for upper jaw stenosis

My 8-year-old son was fitted with a rapid maxillary expansion appliance (Hyrax). We were asked to turn the screw in the middle one turn every day with a special wrench. We did the first rotation yesterday and he said he felt slight pressure at the root of his nose. Is this normal? When do the gaps between the teeth start to open?

It's very normal! The feeling of tension at the root of the nose indicates that the suture (suture line) in the middle of the jawbone is starting to open. We did each rotation before going to bed at night, he was asleep after 10 minutes and didn't feel anything in the morning.

Yes, the Hyrax appliance aims to separate the maxillary mid-palate suture, and since the nasal base widens, even children's breathing becomes significantly easier. 15-20 minutes of light pressure on the root of the nose and front incisors is completely physiological. In approximately 5-7 days, you will see a diastema (gap) opening between the two front teeth, this is proof that the treatment works perfectly.

I was scared at first when the space between the front teeth separated, but later on, the canine teeth coming from the bottom were placed properly in the widened area, and it was a wonderful treatment process.
