Feeding plate and nasoalveolar shaping (NAM) in babies with cleft lip and palate

Our baby was born with a cleft palate. Does wearing a NAM plate before surgery correct the nasal wing?

Yes! In the first weeks after birth, cartilage tissue is very flexible due to maternal estrogen. The NAM plate not only allows the baby to breastfeed comfortably, but also narrows the cleft space before surgery and perfects nasal symmetry.
