What is checked in the cephalometric x-ray taken before orthodontics?

My doctor requested both a panoramic film and a cephalometric lateral film before placing braces. What exactly is being measured in this cephalometric film?

In cephalometric analysis, the angles of your jaws relative to the skull base, growth direction (vertical/horizontal) and inclinations of the incisors within the bone are calculated in millimeters and degrees. It is the only way to distinguish whether it is a skeletal or dental problem.
