Basal cell carcinoma suspicion for a crusty wound on the side of the nose that does not heal

There is a tiny pimple-like spot on my father's nose that hasn't healed for 4 months. The dermatologist referred him to surgery.

Crusted lesions that do not heal for more than 1 month in sun-exposed areas should be checked with excisional biopsy. When basal cell carcinomas detected early are removed with clean margins in a single session, 99% complete cure is achieved.
