When should you brush your teeth after drinking soda or coffee while wearing braces?

I get up and brush right after eating because food gets stuck between the brackets. However, I've heard that brushing right after drinking coffee or something acidic will erode the enamel. How long should we wait?

Immediately after consuming acidic beverages, coffee or orange juice, the pH value in the mouth drops below 5.5 and the enamel surface softens temporarily. Immediate brushing may mechanically wear away (erosion) acid-softened enamel. You should rinse your mouth with plenty of water immediately after consumption, and wait at least 25-30 minutes to brush your teeth, allowing the buffering capacity of your saliva.

I was brushing right after coffee in the office, and my doctor warned me. Now, first I drink a big glass of water and shake it, then after half an hour I go and clean it with my orthodontic brush.
