Apical Resection instead of extracting the tooth when root canal treatment fails

The root end abscess in my root canal treated tooth does not go away. Can I save my tooth with apical resection?

Apical resection (root end surgery) is the last and most valuable salvage point before tooth extraction. The last 3 infected millimeters of the root are surgically cut and plugged backwards with a special bioceramic filling (MTA); The tooth remains in the mouth successfully.

I was wondering the same question, and the detailed answer given by our doctor was very enlightening. Thanks.
