The last 3 months of braces: Fine adjustments and fitting the bite with elastics

My doctor said my braces could last up to 2-3 months. My teeth are straight as a ruler now, but he has triangular elastics fitted on both sides. What good are these tires if the treads are already smooth?

In orthodontics, "alignment" is only the first half of the treatment; The last stage is "locking the occlusion (mutual chewing contacts)". It is not enough for the teeth to be straight; the cusps of the upper teeth must fit into the recesses of the lower teeth like a perfect gear wheel. The final triangle and box elastics you use are to perfect this micro-closure, the permanence of your treatment depends on this stage.

I put those last tires on very disciplinedly and my braces came out 1 month early. Be patient, you are at the last corner!
