Those who have had orthognathic surgery (double jaw surgery): Nutrition and recovery period for the first 2 weeks

Since my lower jaw is forward and my upper jaw is behind, I have been receiving orthodontics for 1 year and I will have double jaw surgery in 3 weeks. How do you manage nutrition, swelling and nasal congestion in the first 10 days after surgery? Can survivors give advice?

First of all, get well soon! I had it 8 months ago. The first 3 days are the period when the face is the most swollen, do not give up the ice compress. You drink broths, purees, and protein shakes filtered through a syringe or special feeding bottles. After the 10th day, the edema decreases rapidly and when you look in the mirror and see that change, you say "I'm glad I had it."

Liquid and soft diet is essential during the intermaxillary fixation (guidance of the jaws with elastics) after orthognathic surgery. Edema, which peaks in the first 72 hours after surgery, is resorbed by 70% from the 2nd week. Nasal decongestants and ocean water sprays are very helpful in relieving nasal breathing. A patient recovery period is rewarded with excellent aesthetic and functional results.

My biggest advice is to buy a fruit strainer or blender/protein shaker for babies. Also, your lips will be very dry, so apply plenty of Bepanthol ointment. Don't be afraid, it's not as painful as you think, it's just a little troublesome.
