Does receding gums heal on its own? Is surgery to remove a piece of the palate necessary?

My lower left canine tooth has 3-4 mm receding gums and it hurts when I drink cold water. Will it grow back on its own or will a connective tissue graft (surgery by removing a piece of the palate) be required?

Unfortunately, receding gums do not grow back on their own. I had palate graft surgery 2 years ago. There is a little pain in the palate for the first 3-4 days, but my tooth is completely saved and the sensitivity has disappeared.

Lost attachment and gum tissue cannot regenerate spontaneously. Exposed cementum tissue carries the risk of root caries and extreme dentin sensitivity. Depending on the case, the recession area can be successfully closed with a free gingival graft or connective tissue graft, and the progression is stopped permanently by creating a thick keratinized gingival band.
