Clicking/thumping sound from the jaw and a feeling of locking while eating

I hear a "clicking" sound in front of my right ear, especially when I'm having breakfast or yawning in the morning. Sometimes I can't open my mouth fully, it feels like it's stuck. Will this situation be corrected with braces or is a jaw joint splint required?

I had the same clicking sound and over time my mouth started to not open more than 2 fingers. The maxillofacial surgeon made me a hard acrylic night plate (stabilization splint). In 3 months, the sounds completely stopped and my jaw felt relaxed.

The picture you describe is a typical finding of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disc displacement (disc displacement with reduction). Closure disorders, teeth clenching (bruxism) and postural factors cause the joint disc to slide forward. First of all, personalized hard occlusal splint treatment and joint biomechanics need to be relieved. Then, if there is a malocclusion, orthodontic treatment is planned.

By the way, stay away from the soft silicone night plates sold in the market, I bought one and it made my jaw tighten more. Be sure to have a hard plate prepared by your doctor.
